Table Mesa Road – WTH? Badge of Honor??

While Table Mesa Road is one of the smoothest dirt roads I have ever been on, and certainly doesn’t deserve to be a Badge of Honor Trail, we took some side trails and ended up having a great time.

Broken Arrow Trail: A 4×4 Adventure in Sedona’s Red Rocks

Broken Arrow Trail is only about a 2 minute drive from Sedona Arizona. Of all of the trails we did in Arizona, Broken Arrow Trail was our favorite due to a combination of incredible views and some fun obstacles. This is a high-moderate trail that is a 3.6 mile out and back trail. High clearance is highly recommended.

Chinaman Gulch OHV Trail – Buena Vista, CO

Chinaman Gulch is easily one of my top 5 favorite trails. It is a 7.1 mile trail that can take between 4-6 hours to complete. Modified 4x4s with lockers and winches are highly recommended. While the area doesn’t get much snow, there are a few times during the winter that this because extremely difficult. When dry, it is still very challenging and should never be run alone.

Skyline Drive – Scenic Drive in Cañon City Colorado

Skyline Drive is a scenic roadway in Cañon City, Colorado. It was built by inmate labor in 1905. The road starts from U.S. Highway 50, with a gradual incline up the side of a ridge. When the road crests, it winds, climbs, and falls like a roller coaster until near its end, where a scenic outlook overlooks both the city (east) and the highway (west).

Skyline Drive, looking towards the south.
The single-lane, one-way road rises about 800 feet (240 meters) above the surrounding terrain. There are no guardrails despite sharp dropoffs, and the drive is about 3 miles (4.83 kilometers) long.

The road ends in a residential neighborhood and becomes a residential street that intersects with 5th Street, where signs point south toward U.S. 50 and “Historic Downtown Cañon City,” allowing drivers to head downtown and return to the highway.
